About

Having enjoyed looking closely at the natural world through macro photography for years and with a background in medical and police photography, I have been exploring photography with microscopes during my recent MFA in Art, Science & Visual Thinking. Mosses and the microorganisms living in and amongst these small but mighty plants along with soil organisms are part of my current research and exploration.

I am a photographer who enjoys working with cameraless historical processes such as cyanotype, argyrotype, lumens and photograms as well as with digital. I also work with printmaking, moving image and sound. I try to capture the overlapping contingencies of time and place through photography. This might result in prints being made at the seashore, through the action of the sea and sand on light sensitive paper.

I teach cyanotype, argyrotype, chemigrams, botanical inks and pinhole photography, in collaboration with Museums, Festivals and Arts Centres including Dundee Contemporary Arts Print Studio, Off the Rails Arthouse, Museum and Galleries Edinburgh, Summerhall and Pittenweem Arts Festival.

I also enjoy participatory projects and have recently worked with Fife Contemporary, Clued Up, Families First, Enable, Fruitbowls Garden and V&A Dundee on art and photography projects in Fife and Dundee with children and adults.

Here’s a link to a short video of me talking about my practice for the Experimental Photography Festival 2024.
